Thankfully, the stretch of days did include a Pear Street meeting on a night I was unsure about going and a fun trip to the Birmingham Museum of Art to hang out with my friend Emma and her mom. Both seemed to be doing great! The Museum was as great a thrill to visit as it was over a decade ago. Their collection of African masks and samurai armor is a real treasure as is their Bouguereau (The Boog!) painting! For this trip, they also had special exhibits by Frank Fleming, some ceramicists and the Small Treasures exhibit.
The Small Treasures exhibit featured small-format 17th-century paintings from the Dutch and Flemish Golden Age. I was able to see a mix of works by Frans Hals, Rembrandt and Vermeer. It was a wonderful exhibit with so much classical skill on display. If you haven't seen it, you should check it out before it departs on April 26.
